Advice on some Aspire LVT dry back flooring fitting, we are not happy with the finish and feel it’s not been cut tight the the skirts in areas. Fitter states he always finishes with a silicone sealant and that is to keep moisture out we have argued we do not want that finish and we wanting the planks to be a tight fit (within reason) to the skirts would only consider sealant for bathroom etc. Our previous karndean didn’t require sealant and everyone I know with glue down is just a tight fit to skirts. House is a new build and the skirts are straight. I’ve measured the planks and it’s clearly they’ve been cut short in areas hence the gaps. Please can someone offer advice?
The fittings absolutely s**t. I’d want them all redone, and round that door frames shocking. Looks like he’s used a heat gun that’s why it appears to be curling.
He did use a heat gun as we pointed out areas where it’s lifting and not fully stuck down so he told me he uses his glue gun to fix it. Long story short he’s not coming back told us he can’t fit it as we have asked (flush to skirts) if we aren’t wanting silicone sealant.
We got the flooring supplied through a family run business and then they recommended the fitter we explained to the company we didn’t want beading etc hence when we went with the lvt and were never advised they would put a sealant round. He asked for us to pay him for the screeding and what he has fitted so far, I respectfully said I wouldn’t be happy to pay him for what has been fitted but am happy to pay for the screeding as long as we get a few people to cast their eyes over and it’s not needing fixing or redoing. I asked about moisture readings before the lvt was laid and he could tell me he had taken any which is concerning.
Don’t really think it’s anything to do with the shop now since he doesn’t work for the shop. Your best bet is chasing the fitter & maybe look at an independent inspection.
The shop arranged the fitting and gave us a date. We just had a independent inspection from a local specialist lvt fitter with really good reviews. Said the screed is too thin, the job is bad and he has overcharged us for what the job is he said he would not pay him a penny it all needs redoing and also the moisture levels are too high to have even fitted the lvt in the first place
Did the shop make you aware the fitter didn’t work for you? The price bits irrelevant as you must have agreed to it before accepting the job. It is a shit job so yes will need re doing. a fitter isn’t an independent inspector, but if he’s good it is a good indication
Shocker. Unfortunately you have been recommended a fitter with very low standards. I wouldn’t be happy with the supplier or the fitter. Maybe they should both pay for your refit
Supplier says it is nothing to do with them, offered 2 packs if we go elsewhere and the edges lifting I said it will all need replacing there are about 5 packs down so far. Fitter wants paying for the screed and what he has fitted so far. I said I am not happy to pay for what has been fitted so far and then he asked for the screeding however had a local lad whom specialises in karndean lvt etc cast his eye over and he said he wouldn’t pay him a penny the screed isn’t right and moisture high . I’m not sure on the way forward, supplier and fitter both says nothing is wrong with the job all I can think of is an Independent inspector report?
