Hi, I am hoping for some of your advice here.

We have an existing oak herringbone parquet floor (4mx5m) installed 4 years ago.

The room is now being extended by a new area (6m long and 4.5m wide).

The 'joint' between the two old and new floor area is 3.6m long.

We want to continue the existing herringbone floor into the new area and have sourced the same oak blocks used previously.

My question is do we need to have an expansion gap between the two areas?

We are keen to avoid using a T-Bar for the 3.6m length - ideally the final floor is to be seamless throughout the existing and new area.

Your feedback would be much appreciated.

Is the subfloor screed or timber?

And does the new area have a new subfloor or existing?

The sub-floors for both sections are screed. The new floor also has 2-part epoxy DPM being applied to it (the old one did as well).

But they are not connected? They are 2 separate subfloors?

The subfloors were built at different times but connected, both are screed with self-levelling compound and DPM.
