Relaying an oak floor originally fitted by a joiner, 50sqm, no expansion gaps, no proper dpm, small blocks of wood on top of battens to level it out and nailed down with 50mm brads. I have no doubt joiners posses the skills to lay a wood floor, unfortunately most don't posses the knowledge

I keep getting called out to these kind of jobs, yes they do a nice job of the cuts etc. and it all looks very nice when first done, but they are used to working with timber up to a few inches wide and don't understand when they lay a floor, they now have a piece of timber maybe 4or 5 metres wide, which is probably going to expand at least 10mm and with nowhere to go, it's probably going to destroy the floor, this job is going to cost the customer over £3000 to rectify what should have been a lifetime floor
