Hi all We're planning to fit 20mm engineered floor across the 1st and 2nd floors. Currently subfloor is old planks (prob original 1970s), we're going to remove them and replace with either chipboard or plywood. Our builders suggest moisture resistant chipboard but we're more inclined towards plywood (as it's supposed to be much better dealing with moisture and generally longer lasting). Question is - what sort of plywood is good enough? Is softwood (something like spruce) 21mm fine? Eg "T&G Spruce Plywood On Four Sides (weatherguard) Class 3 2410 x 610 x 21mm - 70% PEFC Certified" (can't post the link). Or something more expensive is needed?
Agree with Daz. I never like the idea of bonding to the main sub floor when its timber. Plus you can overlay the joints to prevent any movement showing through. Much easier to remove if you ever need to also
