    Hi All,

The upstairs flat has recently changed into a household of multiple occupancy (HMO) with 5 shift workers stomping around above our bedrooms at all hours - awful. We have identified a newly tiled area in the HMOs kitchen as the biggest cause of the impact noise - there is some acoustic noise, but this is manageable.

We have agreement with the owner to install Regupol 4515 under a Vinyl/Lino floor finish. We hope this will fix the thudding of footsteps.

Can the Regupol be laid over the existing ceramic tiles? Will it still function to deaden the impact noise?

I realise that the floor height will raise be 4.5mm for the Regupol and another 3mm for the Vinyl.

Any help/experiences would be appreciated. The subfloor is concrete.

You would be better off removing the tiles and installing some decent acoustic matting

Softlay is 19db and only 2.1mm thick, 4515 is 18db.
