Hi all, i just had carpet fitted in my rental and im a bit unhappy with the result. 2 issues: 1. Although i told them not to they folded the carpet rolls to fit them in the lift rather than carry up the stairs. Now fitted, the carpet has wrinkles where it was folded. I keep being told that it ‘will drop’ but its been a couple of days now and no change. I fear that its been stretched out and will stay that way. 2. there was a join needed which looks done badly. I was aware that there would be a join needed and that it would be visible but i wasnt expecting this. The bit of carpet joined also looks darker which makes me think its in the wrong dire
Sorry i guess my message was too long. Just to finish, The bit of carpet joined also looks darker which makes me think its in the wrong direction. Is berber this hard to seam correctly? I question if these guys have the ability to fix this and it could end up even worse. Perhaps i bring someone more experienced to fix the job. The carpet shop are trying their best to wash their hands of it. Why is getting anything done in this country always a such a bodge job
Probably going the wrong way, has it cut off another room and been butted up instead of cut in…… can’t lie that kind of carpet is awful to seam though cheap and nasty loop stuff proper budget carpet
Not sure to be honest. Yea the carpet it crap.. all I said was I want something durable for a rental and this is what the recommended. Wish I researched it, I was hoping given the high reviews that I could trust this place. I assume any job trying to fix this could well make it worse?
Probably, the dark and light colors are due to the different directions of the piles of the carpet. If the small carpet is removable, turn the small carpet 180 degrees and put it back to see if there is a difference.
Its been seamed so not removable. Its also not square (tapers on one end) I will get them to come back and have another go, i am just skeptical that they have the ability to do a better job
Is that felt backed carpet fitted straight to the subfloor? It’s maybe the tape I’m seeing through the gap.
As for the lift/stairs, depending on which floor I’d be more inclined to get it in the lift if possible also.
Not felt backed. What you are seeing is the seam tape and glue. I’d rather they take the lift unless folding carpet rolls causes damage
That sort of cheap felt backed Berber isn’t the easiest to heat seam. However if the carpet shop were aware that you needed a join they should have pointed you in the direction of a carpet that will have a successful seam. As far as using the lift, I bend carpets in half constantly to access properties via using the lift. A competent and experienced carpet fitter would still successfully install & stretch a floor covering flat (wouldn’t bend vinyl in this way, that’s different, but carpet yes). Shouldn’t be a problem at all using the escalator
