    Hello everyone,

I'm about to get started putting ply down over the floorboards upstairs before I lay karndean lvt.

I'm based in the Cambridge area, and I can't find anywhere to buy sp101 or fg1 plywood.

I found the flooring hut has both 8x4 and 4x2 @6mm ply sheets and they deliver.

I would much rather get the 8x4 sheets because that would mean less sheets to lay down in each room. Is there any downside to this?

    Thanks in advance!

    Cheers
    Antonio

Yeah. You can’t get the sheets up a narrow staircase.

Other than that 8x4 will have less joins to feather. Although you probably have to feather or level over the whole floor anyway

    Thanks for the response!

Ok great - the stairs ain't narrow, so ir should be ok.

The cheapest I've found the sheet is at £36 (8x4 @5.5mm, incl vat). Is flooring grade plywood this expensive, or is there a cheaper and still good alternative?

If anyone's got a timber merchant recommendation in the Cambridge area please let me know!

Regarding the joints, do I need to leave a small gap between sheets, or having the sheets touching is ok for sp101?

I'm planning on having the sheets staggered, leave a small gap around the perimeter (~15mm) and only have machine edges touching (not pressing) each other, leaving the cut edges towards the boundary of the room. Does this make sense?

    £36 for sp101 or fg1 8x4 is a decent price

    good price that.
Sheets touching is good. 15mm to much of a gap. 3-4mm is better.

I’d be using 9mm ply on floorboards not 6
