Hi all, first post of what I'm sure is several as I complete a project.

I am currently in the middle of an extension/refurb of our 60s house. Most of it is suspended timber to which a chipboard floor has been laid. There is a point where it runs to a 2m X 2m concrete floor at the front of the house.

I'm planning on putting down Quickstep Livyn click onto it with Quickstep underlay.

Does this system tolerate any uneven joins in the floor? I'm conscious at the union of concrete and chipboard that there might be a slight change in profile and with LVT being such a thin product that it'll eventually show any issues beneath it.

If so, am I better opting for Quickstep laminate?

Floor need to be flat for either. Just level the lower area. If you use laminate you could use a underlay with different thickness. LVT clic will show any uneven parts in the subfloor and laminate will bounce or deflect when walked on

Thanks, I'm working towards that area at the moment. I'm surprised that so many people get the opportunity to use vinyl as the prep has to be very precise not to get any dips or rises within the floor, especially when working between suspended timbers and concrete where extensions have been added. I'm working from back to front in the house at the moment and going down the hallway towards the front door. I'm hoping that once the old middle door is removed, I can get the timber floor level or just above the concrete so I can level.

What's best to get a smooth finish on the concrete if so? Just some SLC or is there a better product for specialist flooring?

It’s very hard to install any hard floor to bs standards. Most builders don’t seem to work to them when it comes to the floors which makes our job a lot trickier.

And a lot more costly too.

So is the advice to board over with ply and then bring concrete level up to ply level? I was planning on fitting myself but it seems to be far trickier to prep the subfloor than it is to lay the tiles.

Yes mate if using a vinyl click.

Ply out and nail every 6” and 4” on the joints of the ply

Would Eco pearls be suitable for levelling any dips in the chipboard? There's a bit an odd join with the old floorboards in the only room which I'm not touching. It seems to be the floorboard quite level and it's about 3mm higher. I could do with something to smooth this point as it's a potential heavy traffic point.
