Hi everyone, we are a young couple renovating our house and doing pretty much all the work ourselves. Husband is a carpenter and very capable. We are just about to install glue down karndean herringbone flooring. Husband has never done this before. We have plied the floors so far. Does anybody have any top tips for us? Any recommendations for glue or tools you need? Things you've learnt along the way? Would really appreciate advice and help. Thankyou so much
Don't do it, not what you want to hear but you stand a chance wasting your new flooring. If it was a straight plank/straight lay then id say yeah it's doable with some good patience but never having fitted lvt before and go straight into herringbone then you are asking for major stress. No tips can help you how to lay it plus are you sure your ply floor is flat/level enough because you will see any underlations if it hasn't been done correctly and you'll regret it. You need a professional in to sort it for you! ....but if you insist in laying it yourself then I wish you good luck as you'll need it especially when it starts to run out and your 'jigsaw puzzle' isn't fitting correctly together
Obviously Laura thinks this is going to be a walk in the park Good luck with that but don't ask for opinions if you can't take contradictions I beg you please post up THE REAL ATTEMPT before you get it done properly lol
Haha please don't feel bad for me, you might want to save it for your other half poor guy, I'm looking forward to seeing how this turned out!
He's not unhappy, he's making a valid point. You are taking on something that really isn't easy for many professional fitters. That said it can be done because it is done every day, just not by first time DIYers. That doesn't mean your husband won't be able to do it and I, like Rugmunching, would love to see pictures of the first, and I hope the only, installation of your floor. Good luck, and I hope it works out well for you both.
