Hi everyone, I’m in the middle of an extension and planning to install a Wunda Rapid Response retrofit UFH system, and looking for some advice on the best flooring type to use (considering engineered wood, laminate, and LVT at the moment) along with the most suitable installation methods, ideally for a DIY job to keep the costs lower (have c. 60m2 of flooring in open plan kitchen/living/dining, utility and toilet, plus hallway). My preference is for a herringbone pattern (or basket-weave with LVT), but have a few concerns about compatibility and the practicality of installation. I think my key questions at this stage are: 1. Floating vs. Adhesive Installation: I’m leaning towards laminate from a cost perspective and I like that it can be a floating floor, however, I’d prefer the design options of engineered wood or LVT, but am conscious of the adhesive installation recommended by Wunda. Is floating engineered wood in herringbone viable over UFH, or has anyone successfully used something like Elastilon Strong underlay for an engineered wood on top of the Wunda system to avoid the 'wet' adhesives? 2. LVT Installation: I’ve never installed LVT and the suggested adhesive process (using Mapei Eco-Prim Grip and Ultraplan Renovation Screed) puts me off from a DIY perspective (especially when reading issues others have had with LVT on this forum too). Aare there any tips for attempting this myself, or just avoid LVT in this case, or should I look at hiring a professional to do it? Ultimately, I’m trying to get a balance between budget, durability, design, and ease of installation, but appreciate getting all of these is unlikely/impossible! Any do’s and don’ts, or experiences with these flooring types over a retrofit UFH would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help and advice!
