    Hi there,

I’m planning to lay laminate planks between two rooms. I want the laminate planks to flow seamlessly between the two rooms without using a door threshold.

My problem is that the two rooms have about a 1cm height difference and one room has a concrete subfloor, the other is a timber subfloor.

Any suggestions on how I can achieve a seamless transition between the two rooms? Can I simply ‘stack’ the underlay where the rooms join? Use a thicker underlay in one room than the other? Any help is welcomed :)

Which is lower the wood or concrete and what’s the total length of the area to be fitted?

Ply the wood up to height or levelling compound on the concrete side. You could use a thicker underlay on 1 side but it may feel/sound different when you walk on it

The timber is the lower subfloor, the total length from wall to wall is 8m

A couple of options, either 6mm ply on the wood side then use a 7mm fibreboard underlay with a vapour barrier underneath on the wood side then a 3mm underlay on the concrete side bringing both level or belt and braces 9mm ply on wood side then over screed the wood and concrete level (most expensive option but will give you the best finish), just double check the install instructions on the laminate chosen most say to split the areas if over 7m in length so running through might not be a viable option anyway.
