Hi all, First time laying a laminate (or any type of) floor but I think I'm up to it! My question is on underlay choice. The room is a ground floor office with exterior walls to three sides (one shared with the garage). The subfloor is concrete but was laid 5+ years ago, before we moved in (I might guess it's closer to 10 years old). Image attached. How vapor/ water resistant should my underlay be for this application? I'll be laying 12mm boards. The two options I have on my shortlist are... Vitrex 5mm Foam (£2.61/m sq) screwfix.com/ p/vitrex-5mm-premier-wood-laminate-underlay-boards-9-76m-/68038 Gold Foil (£2.77/m sq) diy.com/ departments/ 5mm-laminate-wood-underlay-gold-foil-15m2-roll-1m-x-15m-airborne-impact-noise-reduction-moisture-proof-membrane/5056524041635_BQ.prd ...while there's not much in the price of these I have approx 18m sq to cover and so 2 packs of the foam is far cheaper than 2 of the foil, of which a lot would be wasted. Thanks in advance. Rich
Edit: Vitrex 5mm foam is the 'Premium' version, that lists moisture resistance in the spec. screwfix.com/ p/vitrex-5mm-xps-premium-underlay-board-9-76m-/757vj
Option 3 (just stumbled on while writing update): XPS Aquastop foam (only 3mm thick, but has vapour membrane) screwfix.com /p/3mm-xps-aquastop-foam-underlay-panels-10m-/597fw A shade cheaper and I would use most of 2 packs with little wastage.
