So, we are midway through renovating a flat. The old smelly and damp vinyl flooring is up but we have the usual problem:

    1) old wooden floorboards make it really noisy for the flat below, they can hear every footstep
    2) the floorboards are uneven with big gaps between
    3) we don't want carpets, as we have a menagerie of cats that drag things in from the garden

Laminate flooring could be a problem, as we like to mop through daily and even waterproof laminate is going to have patches where water creeps underneath.

We've settled on self adhesive vinyl - if the cats scratch it, we can replace any piece. It's waterproof. We can install it ourselves. It doesn't have to look great, just be functional and relatively low cost.

The problem- Which substrate to use for self adhesive that will reduce impact noise and remain even, despite the uneven floorboards?

I've been told we can use SP101 ply but concerned it won't hide the noise much? Do I need to put something under this for noise reduction, then ply, then vinyl on to the ply?

someone else said we don't even need ply now, we can just use underlay squares that are waterproof and reduce noise a lot. Not sure if they can have self adhesive tiles put on them though?

you could go with Jumpax. It's not hugely waterproof but has good decibel reduction and your self adhesive tiles would make the whole are a bit more moisture resistant.
