I know a few people who have been to Bondi, and they all say the same thing...
..If you go to Bondi, wear trainers cos the sand hides loads of hypodermic needles

That's because you are working on the uk charge rates and not Aussie charges.
Some differences between uk and Aussie when it comes to laying, what is the sm rate
in the uk these days then.

They charge in Broodloom meters and not square meters.

    Most carpets are 3.66 wide

No door bars , doors seam joins

Most houses are low set or bungalows to you lot. ( more so in Qld , Sydney and Melbourne have a few more high set coming along now days ), so very rare to do a HSL, intact most Aussie layers won't know what HSL means

Toilets and bathrooms are never carpeted , Aussie laugh at us for that.

Normal house has carpet in lounge and bedroom and that's it. Hall ways and kitchen is in tiles or other hard flooring.

Doing 40 blm a day is considered a far day.and these are the people getting the big money. But you can , like the uk be on the books and earn less or like most layers be contract and earn more.

In Qld most of the layers transport is Utes and not vans . Rain not really a problem so the carpet is strapped to the roof.

Carpet and vinyl suppliers are pretty much the same companies as in the uk. In fact most of them are uk. VCC are big here but you lot know them a Victoria Carpets . But as norm Aussie shorten everything. Godfrey Hurst are the biggest. But Britons , axminters , ulster and loads other are here in carpets and armstrong, Polyfloor , flotex , karndean , antico, tarkett , quick step. are just a few of the manufactures here too. So not a lot different to the uk as far as product

Foam underlay is now 80-90% of the market . Rubber very rare now days.

My uk fitting rate is £5 a metre, plus extra for uplift, furniture, door trims etc.
As far as I know, it`s also broadloom rate for domestic. 4x4= 16sq. m so pays £ 80
Its only commercial work which is paid as 'measured work'

I think there are many more oppertunaties is oz. I have three or four friend`s who are out there now, and they are all doing very well, and LOVE the lifestyle.
One mate is working in the mines, and has just bought a 30 acre farm. Nice !

I bruised my ribs and banged a knee jumping out of bed when I dreamed a spider was crawling on me, my wife thought I was having some sort of fit.
And now I've got this thread on my mind, I just know I'll have a similar dream tonight........bugger.

I have been all over Australia and believe me it's not like what you see with Steve Irwin.

By the time you get there the snakes have gone. I have been here for 7 years and only seen one spider that would
made you feel a bit crap but that is it. And a python snake, which are not dangerous.

Glad this wee thread was revived.
Was in mercado Belfast the other day a a lady was in asking to see a spiked roller and spiked shoes.
The guy who served me was telling me that it was for a guy in Oz who moved and can't get the tools he needs and has to get them shipped over even his welders.
Still would love to go though.
