Has anyone ever come across whatever this stuff is that was put on top of the dreaded CS/Gypsum? Apparently it was some sort of waterproof top coat which in turn has trapped the moisture in the gypsum, we tested it and the RH was 90% odd. The company that laid it said it could take lvt after 14days. It's been several months now so the builders are scratching their heads. Obviously we are not taking the risk so the builders have hired a diamond grinder on our request and are grinding the whole thing back to the aggregate, which then we will re test again after. Any experience or tips with this crap please share..

Is there heating in the floor ?
If there is, get it on.
Keep the area as well ventilated as possible.
Now its scratched up, it should start to dry out.

Doesn’t look like anything on top apart from Laitance that’s been left to long That’s why it hasn’t dried yet should be ideally removed after 7 days

This isn't my job just helping out today but always interested for future reference, apparently they did put some sort of top layer on which baffles me too.. it does just look like laitance. Also the floor has cracked in a few areas (apparently it's normal?) is this common place... [IMG][IMG]

Was it cracked before the grinding started ?

Yes was cracked before, the builders were obviously concerned and the company just said it's normal due to shrinkage or something. There's more cracks as well. Waiting on a moisture reading but last one came back at 79% rh.

    How would you play it?

The cracks all lead to a weak point in the floor which is under an island that apparently has pipes etc coming through.. Thinking that may of not helped but there is a crack in the hallway also.. [IMG]

Not sure about this maxi screed? Some sort of new strain apparently..

You need to see if it cracks any more
I’d want to speak to the manufacturer of it before doing anything else That’s not normal

I’m guessing digging it up isn’t an option so I’d be using Uzin crack repair with 877 over all the crackes and then can cover the whole floor with reinforcement mesh then Uzin 110 smoothing compounds But then because the mesh comes through the screed The whole thing would need sanded then primed

Not a cheap prep job

The whole floor is a weak point by the look of it
Calcium sulphate is pre mixed and pumped in so its either a dodgy batch which I doubt or some one has done something seriously wrong

I`ve seen lads on site run a hose into the area, and leave it running the whole time. It makes it flow more, and easier for them, but obviously weakens the screed.
I`ve also seen it laid in really hot weather, and direct sunlight. That leaves a nice crazy paving effect also.
Builders, especially big ones, dont normally care about stuff like this. More than likely, it will be screed over, and worry about it later.

Get Uzin out for free to spec the floor.

Last one I see crack like that was because they had no control over the heating and it went on full blast. Over heated and cracked it.

Ok so just found a write up of the company that laid the screed and this is what they claim??? it looks like another brand new screed, but surely those are bald claims...[IMG]
