    I use a trowel and my main fitter uses a pin leveller.

    rake and a trowel. Or pin leveller. Trowel for small areas or deep fill

    Don't pin levellers simply follow the level of existing floor add 3mm? Never been a fan or merit have I got it wrong again?

    Yeah of the floors rough your better off emptying buckets. But if it’s not bad or it’s a finishing coat then they make it very easy. We normally use it for 5mm coat minimum
