I went to measure a room for an interior designer, at her house, for a walnut engineered floor 15mm.

It is not a large area 3m X 3.25 but she wants one side of it to butt directly up to a tiled floor which would be on the length of the board (I wouldn't be so worried if it was the end of the boards). The backing of the walnut is actually ply rather than block and the floor is to be laid floating with skirting boards being replaced.

The designer says she has seen this done in a magazine (didn't mention any pictures of a subsequent uplift!) so I was wondering if any of you have done anything similar?

Personally I would rather walk away than butt any wood tight to another surface but I have seen people do this before and leave max expansion on the other 3 walls and never have a problem, but I've not done enouth wood to know if it was possible to do it safely
