Hi all, Wonder if anyone in the know could give me their opinion on this...I've bought a new property a few months ago and have been doing some modernisation. We've taken out the radiators and put in an underfloor heating system - overlay boards onto concrete downstairs and spreader plates upstairs with a new cement board subfloor. My builder has recommended a flooring specialist who's quoted me to fit Quickstep Impressive 8mm laminate. His quote includes underlay suitable for UFH, however halfway through the job I realised he's using Ball & Young Roma underlay - this is a product for carpet, not laminate, and is 7mm foam with a good bit of give to it. This doesn't feel to me like the right product for the job, but unfortunately we're quite far along now and have reinstated the skirtings...to undo this is going to be time consuming and costly, and I'm not sure if the risk of damage years down the line is worth ripping everything up now. What do people think, is this a major problem in waiting or is Quickstep a good enough product that it will be able to sustain a bit of wiggle? All advice welcome!!
He’s not a flooring specialist then. That’s a joke. Have you paid him? The joints will be weak as to much movement. They will break long term.
Oh dear, that was the response I was afraid of! Many thanks for the feedback though...no, no paid him yet fortunately, he's only done the upstairs as UFH wasn't quite ready...at least we can get something else for that, but if I'm to fix upstairs will have to take the loo, the vanity unit and the skirting out
Noted have seen these products online...annoyingly if I'd bought the stuff myself it would have been one of these....anyway will need to have a think about what to do, thanks again for your comments mate much appreciated
