We discovered we had a water leak under our utility room floor, which has Amtico Spacia as the flooring finish. We are currently waiting for the insurance appointed drying company to commence the drying process but they have advised that the flooring in the utility room and adjacent dining area (both showing extremely high moisture readings) will have to come up (hatched in red). The potential problem is that either side of dining area also has the same Amtico flooring (hatched in green) and I don't believe the insurance company will payout for this to be replaced as it's not damaged (should have taken out the Platinum level policy!).

My query is, can the flooring be lifted and the new flooring tiles laid at the same level? How do we remove all the old adhesive and self-levelling compound? We will be getting in a flooring specialist in to do the work but I would just like to get some opinions. I accept that the new tiles will be a slightly darker colour due to the existing being faded by the sun.

The build-up is: concrete slab, 30-40mm screed, liquid DPM, self-levelling compound, adhesive, Amtico Spacia.

The compound might be able to stay down. Remove the amtico. Blade scrape the adheisve and leave to dry out. All depends on what compound and liquid Dpm was used. Do you know?

Weve literally just done one of these. If its been prepped correctly the levelling compound will be fine and you may get away with lightly grinding off the adhesive and doing a micro or feather coat. If the levelling compound comes up with the floor you will just need another coat to match the old height
