I take it these cutters don't cut the skirting boards then?
If not why not, if one setting will do for any carpet thickness then how come on thinner carpets it doesn't go into the skirting?
Not quite understanding how they work exactly, do they use straight blades or hooked blades or what?

Straigth blades, special to the cutter. The face of the cutter hooks behind the carpet protecting the skirting from the blade. You can adjust the blade up, down, in or out. As I say on long walls they are so quick you wouldn't believe it (so long as the carpet is hooked on).

On hallways or awkward rooms I just use my knife but trust me, its a useful addition to my toolbox !

Ps you do still need to cut the first 3-4" with your knife before you can use the trimmer !

Hi, I have had the 10-616 cutter for a while and was getting mixed results with it. I phoned Steve at RWS http://www.carpetfittersshoponline.co.uk for some advice on cutters. He told me most fitters seem to get on really well with it and pointed me towards this forum. I had never seen one used and so had been "winging" it. Sometimes getting good results sometimes not so good. Mine didn't come with any instructions so I did a search and found this link with a downloadable PDF manual. Turns out I should have been using it with the handle in an upright position (probably general knowledge to most, but unfortunately not to me). Here is the link for the manual. Hope it may assist others in a similar position to me. http://www.roberts-consolidated.com/?q=node/79
