Nice one Ian, who is that good looking bloke in the picture? it surely cant be you eh? it,s Bradley Walsh is,nt it
Ive got one of these cutters a roberts one ive tried several times to set it up and the one time i did get it sort of set up i couldnt get it to move ie cut the carpet so i stick with hooks at the mo but would be handy if i could use it on bigger jobs
Problem could be that when you start the cut you have to keep the waste held tight and out of the way until the cutter gets going otherwise it jams up !.If you look at the video for the roberts all in one (cutter, trimmer, tucker) they show the waste held tight and outta the way. I have found that blades last a lot longer with the cutter, even a dull blade will still cut reasonably well once you started the cut . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OmLbcqduFM [youtube:3q53kz91]4OmLbcqduFM[/youtube:3q53kz91] Cheers Ray
it was a brand new blade i pinned the carpet on gripper made a cut up near the corner then put the cutter in but when i pushed it to start cutting it wouldnt even do that maybe i set it up wrong not sure but i gave up after that
hi looks easy in the vid wish it was that simple lol.i cant even get it to move to get hold of any waste to pull it tight.
Dazza, once you started your cut with the knife to get the cutter in, If you look carefully, im holding the cutter with my left hand pushing it forward and into the skirting, and holding the waste tight with my right hand, ( you can just see it) it goes like a hot knife thru butter mate trust me, persivere crackin bit of kit. Oh and look theres a row fider there too, wonder how that got in the shot? lol
so are you lot starting the cut with your knife? I dont need to use a knife apart for the last 2" in corners. I start the trimmer off above the skirt (the 10cm of carpet going up the skirting) and come in with the trimmer at a angle . Then reverse the trimmer and go the other way .
Ahh right, well i always backcut the first 6" in the slid the cutter in never thought of reversing it, thats damn good Matt, cheers fella.
I havent used mine yet and i know more info than your good selves but putting it into practice may be different.
To be honest i have not had any problems using mine, although someone did post up instructions the other week which were useful and in fact mentioned about running it both ways !
