I’ve got spreadsheets for the materials so it’s easy to swap around quickly with the estimating software I use. Time is a hard one. Can you find someone else to take the pressure off? Use a virtual assistant to do some admin??
I do my measures in the evenings ,normally 2or3 a night, first one at 6:30, which can be a pain at times, because it limits the hours i can spend working
I mainly do mine on a Saturday and Sunday if I can't reach during the week. I tend to do majority of paperwork in the week rather than get buried all weekend but sometimes as we know dont work out the way you want it. I do sometimes miss the days when you used to rock up at the firm you sub to, grab the materials, fit and invoice
I`ve had a crap day. Last week I priced up 4x 30 sq. m studios to sand and seal, at different sites, all in the centre of London. Dusted off my sanding gear (not used for 10+ years) and got it all up and running. Turned up at the first site today at 6.15am due to loading restrictions. Walked in, and the area is 90 sq....... Someone got there measure wrong, but I only gave a sq. m rate. Within an hour, I was told I could only now complete this site, as I was too expensive, and the max rate they will pay for the other sites is £20sq. And that they already had another team in place, that could complete the work this week.
That's a shi**er that is. Who was it that measured it up for you? Was it someone you worked for before or first time?
Ive worked for them before, there builders, but normally there ok They were given drawings, with square ft on, which they converted to sq. m Tbh i`ve worked from the drawings before, and there not accurate, but not normally 3x short...
'Why the fuck am I here moments?! Aye weekly. Normally when builders don't do their prep right or they ask if we can possibly skip proper prep or correct drying times *eyes to heaven*. Today another Builder called for 3rd time saying white-rockers behind, tough I say tell them to work through till morning to get done. He then says can we latex and fit same day instead? No.. 35m up the wall in a day is enough especially on a Friday p I hate fast set screeds.
Well today made up for the crap day, measured up and quoted to fit 2000sqm of carpet in a hotel, underlay and gripper already down. Carpets delivered to site and old carpets already uplifted. Got a call this afternoon confirming the job and they even offered to pay a deposit to secure the fitting date without me asking
