I get them every now and then, I tell them any advice is now chargeable and they promptly disappear

If he tried that with any other trade he would be told either to go away or pay up, Flooring is no different.

That’s what I’ve been doing getting sick of people trying to skimp on paying a professional but thinking they can use our knowledge for free.

It's funny I think flooring is one of them trades where people don't see it as 'professional' as say a sparky

That's before they try to fit a carpet!! Not as easy as it looks. My brother had a wood floor shop in the 90's and people would come in look at the flooring ask all about the installation and then he'd never see them again: off to the internet! In the end he would show them the flooring and when asked about the fitting he would simply say "don't you worry about that, that's what we do".

Sparky forum page is well scary with how intolerant and "regs this and regs that" attitude most have and is probably why so many people are doing dangerous DIY - a spark would rather you died than DIY'ed. I think as a trade they have better sounding qualifications but I don't see them as any more skilled.
