Does no one glue down their ply especially if you've got cupped boards fill those voids with F3 or Layabonds lino paste 81 trowel it on nice and thick to fill those voids it definetly helps cure the creak you get from staples or nails binding on the sides when you step on the void, plus you have a fully bonded solid sub-floor perfect. I always insist on glue and pin.
i would advice against this Jay. If ever you need to get the plywood up, it destroys the floorboards also. I advice that if floorboards are not flat, then to sand them/plane them flat to start with. Went to look at a complaint not so long ago where the fitter had glued the plywood down. The plywood had to be taken back up, it cost him a fortune to put the job right as he ended up paying for 100sq'm of replacement floorboards also! The actual reason why he glued it was because the floorboards was cupped, He never checked the moister of the floorboards which was wet when fitting. The house had a flood previous and the floorboards was wet because of this (standing water under the house) . The water issue had been fixed, so when the water dried out, the floorboards returned to there normal shape. As he had glued the plywood it had now caused 'crowning' effect to the floorboards instead. The fitter made a mistake and i felt sorry for him when he realised he had to replace all the floorboards also.
This is my compressor (2nd one down) and it's a great piece of kit for the price £124.95 inc. http://www.diy-compressors.com/catalog/starter-kits.htm
You've got a bigger one than me. The pump's the same size........ It's just you hold more air than me
Here is a list of 3 of them mate the top one says it does 25 mm nails http://bostitch.co.uk/products/tools/ap ... -flooring/
Heh heh, this world just got a wee bit smaller again, I also own the third one down, I stopped using it in the workshop though as it kept coming on every time a favourite tune came on the radio or when the phone rang ! Have a silent running one now and its the bees knees !
So it does daz, hmm strange Unless theyve changed the model specs, doubtful though Thats deffo my one, and it def does take 25mm, i can assure you
Ahh If you click on the 'fastner range' link above the details of the nailer itself, it will take you to a list off compatitble nails for it. 25mm is there
I have the 2nd one down, and it its the absolute mutts nutts. Van stays tidy, easy to unroll and roll up. http://bostitch.co.uk/products/accessor ... mbo-packs/
Really how bizzare been doing my ply and hardboard like that for years and never had a problem, yes it does make the strip out painfull but why strip out when you can just use Flex700 over it once youve uplifted the flooring. I understand what you're saying Matt but isn't this the recommended method by the BS code of practice i'll have a look at my 2011 copy just to make sure.
The problem with going over the top in this case was the extra floor height. The floor was already at the max height it could be at. Its rare case that you will have this problem and the chap was just unlucky.
