I told the shop I was doing it for to uplift the marmoleum and screed but he insisted that I use instalay. I then insisted if there were any issues with gapping , lipping etc I wouldn't be going back !! I told him that if it was a loose lay product he wanted go for jumpax or similar or at a push click lvt.

Instalay told me, originally fit without a gap and it swelled. Been today and put beveller on its side and ran it across the end of one plank at each joint which took off a v small amount hardly noticeable to relieve the peaking . Didn't put any glue under as underlay was tacky anyway, but what gets me is that I can lift the planks up in the first place. Rep says its normal strength at site visit ????

I don't like the idea of Instalay but if your asked to use it why did you not leave an expansion gap ? It requires an expansion gap so you didn't give your self the best chance really ? I'm defo not guna try it with out a sample roll to test

Its a PS adhesive. Everyone tests adhesive in the wrong way and with what you have said you have also made the mistake.

We all (including myself before it was explained to me) for some reason decide to test adhesive strength by pulling apart what ever it is that is bonded. PS adhesive has a very poor 'pull apart strength' . I say pull apart, i mean pulling upwards from the floor. (as our floors are stuck to the floor after all. )

Have a think about this (how it was explained to me), which way are floor-coverings trying to move? They try and move sideways ! NOT UPWARDS unless they have hit a wall and failing through compresttion of hitting the wall and then they go up. (the floor is already failing at this point)

So if we was to test a floor by pulling up we are testing the strength wrong, we dont care how strong the adhesive is pulling upwards. What we want is sideways strength, try testing the product by pulling it sideways, you might find that its very strong.

I have a some for testing

I did install some at harrogate show and there was no issues. Also been using for woodflooring for many years without issues. However i would like to do some point loading tests on it and temperature changing tests so im installing stuff at front of training centre that will be subject to direct sunlight and also pallets/forklift trucks driving over it.

Will let you all know the out come.

Speaking of instalay...if anybody has a lvt job and want to test their product for free to use in a warm weather area such as a conservatory, then get in touch....it must be a mflor/distinctive lvt product that is sold to go on top!
