Hi, I am looking to have Spectra LVT Click flooring installed in my flat. The company selling the flooring have told me it will be necessary to buy beading to go around the edges. The fitter has told me that unlike laminate or wood, LVT doesn't expand much so won't need a significant expansion gap. He usually seals the edges against the skirting with a bead of silicon, and advises me not to get the scotia beading as it is an unnecessary expense. What do you think about the idea of edging to the skirting board with silicone?
I get alot of customers who choose beading as their choice but I try and sway them away, hate beading I usually fit with 2-3mm gap and a clear bead of silicon put on with a proper tool, not my fat finger. Always looks better and not had any issues.
Reassuring to hear he's not the only one who prefers doing this. So no need to cut/remove skirting, or buy metres and metres of beading.
If done properly and not just 'chopped in' then it'll look spot on, new skirts put on after would be the best finish but if that's not an option then a tiny bead of clear will be fine.
