    You need to set your levels throughout the floor and continue to pour levelling compound until you hit those levels. As you set the levels you can measure the depth you need and work out the amount of levelling compound your going to need. If you cock it up you can go hire a grinder and grind down the high spots. Hopefully you don’t have any gaps anywhere or you could be pouring it all under your house

    Ok, so I contacted a professional and asked if he can apply the self levelling compound after I fit the plywood

    He suggested to pour the latex directly over the floorboards after sealing all the gaps

    I also asked if the floorboards need to be primed and he said there is no need

    To be fair he said he wasn’t sure if it could be done without plywood and that he had to ask advice from someone else

    But he seemed pretty sure there is no priming to do

    There’s always priming to be done

    Yikes. Ask him if he mixes up the levelling compound with a whisk or a stick please.

    I’ve asked Mapei about primer and screeding directly over floorboards, here’s the answer

    We acknowledge receipt of your email and can comment as follows.

    The primer we would recommend for use over plywood prior to applying Mapei Ultraplan Renovation screed 3240 would be Mapei Eco Prim T Plus or Mapei Eco Prim Grip.

    Whilst it is preferable to over board, it may be possible apply the Mapei Ultraplan Renovation screed 3240 onto the floorboards providing they are clean, solid and free of all movement and deflection. Any holes/gaps would of course require to be treated using a preparatory type filling agent (builders caulk etc.). The prepared boards would need to be primed using Mapei Eco Prim T Plus.

    Ok, I’ve got the 6mm plywood which I will lay myself (Someone else will do the screed)

    what’s the best way to lay the sheets? I know I should stagger the boards to just have T joints;
    should I start with a full board on the centre or is it best to have a full board on the most busy area of the room (towards the entrance of the bedrooms)
    How much gap should I leave where the boards meet the walls?
