Ask him the exact materials/compounds he will use and run it by us but it all depends on the condition of your floor ie moisture readings etc
We could say use ardex CL with primer underneath adhered with uzin ke66 but without the proper detail/condition of your existing floor we could advise wrong/overkill if that makes sense

...but let's just go by assuming all readings are ok and we're ready to go then I'd be decreasing, priming and flowing Fball 300hd over the entire area. Lvt would be stuck down using uzin ke66.

....but then you'll get some that would go decrease, prime, ardex NA screed the area and stick down with Ke66/ardex 175/f44/uzin 2000s....it's all down to preference. I know spacey will come along and say don't use 175/f44/2000s so it's like I said above, it all depends what the supplier will prefer to use. It doesn't always mean they are bang on correct though. Some will come in and not bother with a decrease, no primer but ardex NA the area and stick with pressure sensitive glue even though it is ufh.

Thank you, Rug... (I think?) .. but now I'm getting scared.

Will moisture readings still be an issue given my floor has UFH and is already laid with ceramic tiles which are in good nick?

If I want to be on the safe side, should I insist on degreasing and priming? The quote I have costs for (and these are the exact terms used) smoothing compound, LVT adhesive, feather finish and repair mortar.

I really cannot afford this job to go wrong .. it's costed at £2800 ...which for me is an arm and a leg!

Thank you for your help ...Joan

    Hi Joan,

So personally I’d always recommend taking up the existing ceramic tiles & laying the LVT option from scratch.
But if the tiles are solid & sound, you accept that the new floor is only as good as the ceramics are laid ..

So I’d suggest using Stopgap 300HD with their primer, then F48ht adhesive which both covers UFH. All balls screeds & adhesives are approved with Amtico & Karndean alike, although they both offer their own adhesives. As for fitters ..
If your unsure, Amtico & Karndean, Altro & other flooring manufacturers have their own approved premier installers who they can point in your direction.
We are Altro & Amtico approved installers.. just saying :)

    Thanks

Let's me honest here, approved by karndean or any other manufacturer doesn't always mean you are going to get a fitter who knows his stuff, it been proved time and time over. You only have to read some of the horrors on here alone to figure that one out....Approved doesn't mean Jack s**t in my opinion.

Haha. Okay fair point - I’m also time served with 15 years in the industry & a portfolio longer than my arm.
Definately don’t need words to talk for me as my work does that -

Noooo wasn't saying you in particular pal, what I meant was there is a whole heap of approved installers that I'd imagine some of us have had the joys to come across or work with that are clearly in it for a quick £££.

I was shocked when I worked for a firm yrs back who was sorting his tools out ready for 200m2 of burmatex lvt install and started complaining about his hook blades kept snapping :D

The point of the approved is you get your guarantee from the product.

Buy online and get your own fitter you don't get the warranty.

I've met lots of good fitters who are not approved doesn't take away from the quality of work. But it does make it harder for the customer to vet quality.

Use an approved Installer and the manufacturer will happily get involved in issues too.

Use an approved retailer and your fitter is approved if they have done the course .

(Although before it starts experience is more important than a 3 day course lol)

That’s just the retailer vouching for the installer
Manufacturers aren’t going to approve an installation only there product
If a job fails is down to the fitter and the retailer not the manufacturer
