Ply joins showing through Karndean

The ply has been out ontop of existing wood flooring?

 

Spacey in reality that sounds like a plan - but I didn't see him taking moisture readings and getting an answer on what ply was used is going to be difficult I suspect

Yes they installed the ply on top of the canadian maple flooring / floorboards

What do I need to be asking them tomorrow as I don't want to get fobbed off and what should the resolution be?

I can't believe the guys you used are karndean trained or haven't been advised to fit on existing etc, I'm positive any of the floor skills trained lads would have followed the correct procedures.

 

I saw a platinum retailer fit strait to chipboard! Didn't sweep or hoover nothing just laid strait on even chip board was short all around the building by about an inch plus screw heads sat proud!!

 

Thanks all for your advice, I really feel that Karndean need to sort this out as its ultimately giving their product a bad name. All Karndean approved retailers like the one I used should have a duty of care of ensuring that their product is installed correctly and Karndean itself need to be doing more of ensuring that this is the case.

I am awaiting the retailer to get back to me with a date on when they are free to look at the floor

Adam - what do you mean by installing on existing? In our hallway the only flooring that was down was solid Canadian Maple wood flooring/floorboards and this is what the ply was installed onto. In the dining room the ply was installed onto standard floorboards

 

Hey I don't believe it's karndean fault, you can't blame a manufacture of a surface flooring product for an issue with the fitting or sub floor issues, your retailer as you say has a duty of care to pit things right, under the sales of goods act, if it's not fit for purpose then they should have a chance to pit it right.
I obv would happily blame my competitors, but if there's issues with the sub floor, it's not the products fault.

 

Like I've said many times on here, the shop maybe karndean registered but they may just employ subbies to do work who are NOT trained or competent in fitting LVT. This does happen quite a bit, and also if shop is particularly busy it may cut corners and use fitters who are not qualified , as they won't want to lose the job.

 

If there were issues with the subfloor then they should have picked this up when doing the original survey and quote

That's true but ultimately it will reflect badly on Karndean and they perhaps need to cast a stricter eye over their registered retailers that they endorse through their website and from their flagship showroom in Evesham. If these retailers are using subbies who are not qualified to install the product to the high standard required including the preperation then they should be struck off their approved retailer list if they have multiple complaints.

 

Karndean will come and look and tell you in there opinion what is wrong. The retailer will then put I t right. If the retailer feels they have done nothing wrong then u made need to get out an independent inspector. But I'm sure they will put it right for you.

 

As long as the product is selling they'll never do that as would any other Lvt manufacturer. but it is down to the shop to vet the installers they use. I personally would prefer to fibre screed over ply so you wouldn't have the ply lines problem but not always possible as its always comes down to the cost and what the customer wants to pay.

 

The shop who measured the job shouldn't have known what's involved in getting the job done correctly regardless of who ended up fitting it

 

Just curious, when you take your car for new tyres and the fitter scratches the rims is it Pirellis fault?

Sorry to be blunt but ultimately your contract is with the retailer. It becomes Karndeans concern if it wears prematurely or expands/contacts excessively. If memory serves, you had concerns before the job was completed. I agree with your idea of retailer vetting by Karndean in principal but as others have said, they're just too widespread to have the man power to do this.

 

This is the reason why distinctive/mflor are involved in approving fitters that are citb accredited. Am I right Adam ?
