Hi can anyone give advice! We had a LTV floor laid yesterday and today (for the second time) approx 85m2, after floor was rolled the ply lines started to show, it was laid on 6mm ply ringnailed to plywood sub floor, feathered joints. Moisture levels were checked in sub floor, all ok, chipboard subfloor is flat glued and screwd with no sign of movement. It is a ground floor, suspended with wet underfloor heating, the heating was turned off 48 hours prior to insulation. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Was it rolled with a heavy duty roller?

Me personally don't use a hefty roller when on ply, I use a hand roller when I'm wet setting but minimal needed.

Could be that the weight has caused to much strain between the joins.

If you put your foot on the 'lines' can you feel alot of the movement between the ply boards?
Put a picture up if you can

So from what you have said, you have chipboard with ply already on it BEFORE it was ply boarded again?

...and the lines only appeared when it was rolled?

What’s directly over the wet ufh system ? Is there a void like a beam and batten ?

No picks of feather, I am assuming it was done correct as this is the second time that they have layed this floor, it was first layed 2 month ago and the same thing happened, lines came through after a few days last time. Do you know of any surveyor who specialise in this sort of problem. Thanks.

Sounds like the subfloor is weak.
9mm ply and a full flow of fibre based screed would have been better

UFH heating is on ally spreader plates fixed to top of joists 100 the UFH plies sit in channels on ally plates then 22mm T&G chipboard over the top, 100mm insulation under ally spreader plates. Thanks

Was it flooring grade plywood? How wet was the feather when it was applied?
You could contact Sid Bourne, he carries out surveys for failed installations

Shouldn't need 9mm ply and latex on a flat chipboard floor! 6mm should be sufficient.

Whenever there's ufh under ply I would always go over with a screed, I've had it happen to me, flat floor no movement 6mm ply coil nailed 2 skims of feather and I could see the joints come through slightly in certain light when we came back to do other work months later, lvt when warm goes supple and moulds to what it's laid on. Is it less noticeable when its completely off?

Would you say 6mm and feather sufficient , or 6mm and full screed ?

For me. Over the chipboard 6mm plywood or 9mm but has to be SP101 or FG1 then a fibre smoothing compound like Uzin NC196 or Ardex FA10

From what I have read I have to agree, I think they rushed it, laid the ply jointing compound and started to lay the floor all in 1 day, possibly moisture still in joints. Thanks for your thoughts.
