Yeah course it does, any vinyl with silicon on top looks gash bla bla bla...heard it all before and that's a matter of opinion isn't it.

...and to an extent I'm not disagreeing with your opinion about some fitters use it to cover up their 'hook blade' methods but that's not my point is it.

annnnnnddd I'll say it again...if the customer requests it and wants to pay for it then I'll do it simple as that whether you agree or not.

Yeah and of course I'm covering up sins etc etc and my 3mm short planks or filling in the gaps  it's the service I provide and what I'll continue to do so if the customer requests it!

Bottom line is simply 90% of new build developers SPEC that there floors are mastic finished just like everywhere in the kitchens bathrooms Windows and anywhere else that will produce a better look to the finish, it has fuck all to do with how well it has been cut in and all to do with the aesthetic it gives for somebody walking through the door into their brand new home, it cheapens the floor to me but to most they think what a nice finish IF they get the mastic man in to do it and not just get the labourers to do it.

Most of the lads on here are domestic fitters so dont see this on a daily basis or have the talks with the site agents about not using silicone and use decorators caulk when air testing as it will come off skirts cleanly.

I can with all certainty say that everybody's work who posts here would be mastic finished regardless as to the level of the fit off, that just what sites do! anyone else who does "plot bashing" on site will know the score new builds have about 4 boxes of silicone put into each and every one of them, its a very different market than doing Mrs Jones at number 12s house

Hi I was under the impression that you have to leave an expansion gap on click lvt and not to mastic it ?

I've done a lot of site work in the past when I was employed and as said 95% of site mastic all wet area regardless of the finish.

Another problem is that when your told a plot has to be finished in one day and you've got 30m2 of tiles and 100m2 of carpet between 2 fitters you cut corner or you just will not get it done. Most of the companies that do site work are more bothered about numbers rather then quality which is unfortunate.

I would never in a million years fit my own work the way I did on site but that's just the new build market, there thrown up to a very poor standard which most of the time is accepted
