It's a tough one to keep consistently ranking. Are market is completely saturated as we all know. There's only so many search terms you can use in the flooring game. I think having a few decent angles to come from helps. Also a healthy blog to utilize as a medium to approach different angles rather than a mass of static pages. Static pages being the standard home page, gallery, testimonials, contact us etc.

Overall - especially for the smaller guys - beefing up a website is the best thing to do IMO. The best way to do that is through a blog type facility where fresh content can be added without disrupting the overall usability of a website while bringing people in through the side door.

I could be wrong of course. Google change/add to there search algorithms more than I change my boxers :D

I'll have to check that SEO book out. Got any main tips you picked up that you might want to share Gaz? No worries if you don't want to pass any secrets on mate :)

As an add on, has anyone tried using Google advertising? If you want to rank first page for say 'wood flooring' as an example you'll be paying around £2 per click!!

Don't waste your money with google advertising, they will make it sound like a sure thing for your money, whereas the reality is hardly anyone clicks on the paid advertising links...when was the last time you clicked on one for instance...

The best tip i can think of is to really research your keywords...there is a ridiculous amount of ways to pretty much say the same phrase, Google have got a lot of free info on their webmasters tools for anyone to take advantage of, takes a bit of getting into but its time well spent if it turns a google search enquiry into a job !!

I'm more than happy with my effert so far I rank on page 1 & higher than most of the big guys round my area ! The phone is ringing & I'm winning jobs so can't complain.

I still intend to beef up my site over the next couple of weeks but its onwards & upwards.
